Environmental Stewardship

Through strong stewardship practices, Melissa Feeders has significantly enhanced its nutrient and waste management across all operations, enabling us to expand beyond traditional cattle growing and feeding roles. Our collaboration with universities, government agencies such as TCEQ, USDA, and EPA, as well as various organizations, has positioned us as leaders both within the industry and in our local communities.

In 2009, Melissa Feeders (formerly Stoney Point) was honored with the Regional Environmental Stewardship Award from the National Cattlemen’s Foundation. This recognition highlighted our commitment to environmental sustainability, including initiatives like our Turf Grass program and the Value Feeds milk reprocessing plant in Dallas. Food Waste Recycling

Value Feeds was established in 1999 as "Alternative Feeds" with a focus on researching and developing alternative feed sources for feeder cattle rations and calf ranches, aiming to replace traditional feed commodities. The company operates with a "Food to Feed" approach, converting food industry by-products into valuable feed for various cattle operations. Headquartered in Melissa, Texas, Value Feeds also operates a milk processing plant in Dallas, Texas. Since 1989, Melissa Feeders/Value Feeds has partnered with former divisions of Oak Farms to reclaim out-of-date milk for use in baby calf feed.

Value Feeds strives to create a win-win scenario: food plants reduce disposal costs, while cattle receive a nutritious, cost-effective feed source. Without Value Feeds' intervention, the by-products from these industries would likely contribute to landfill waste, wastewater treatment expenses, and increased environmental management costs.
